Yeah, definetly go with a coupon to save the setup cost. Also, I almost went with LunarPages...they had some good reviews when I was researching a host. I don't know if they support Ruby though.

The one thing I don't like about DreamHost is the setup charges if you decide to pay month to month. I'm leaning more and more towards MT...

Thanks for the feedback. Sounds like most people are pretty happy with Dreamhost. Nick, I'll look into LunarPages. I hadn't heard of them before.

LunarPages for their site and most of their client's sites. Not being a web guy, I can't really speak of the features, but thought you may want to check them out.

friend of mine uses FrozenWebhost some and says the support is great. He's able to IM the guy all the time. However, this guy also has a Dreamhost account because of the ability to host multiple domains.

No complaints for Dreamhost for me. I, along with everyone else felt the hit of their power outages about a year ago but like you've already mentioned... they were very forthcoming about the issues and have been very stable since then. You can't beat the space/bandwidth for the price.... If you're looking to offset some of the costs, their referral program can easily help cover the costs.

I am a former 1and1.com customer. I was pleased with the consistency of the service, but their customer service was horrible.

I am now using Dreamhost (via a friend's account) and I enjoy the vast array of options and services they provide, but being a much larger, and therefore more widely used, company, there is more downtime than with 1and1.com's service.

I have, however, been very pleased with Dreamhost -- and it's hard to beat their prices.

MT has been praised from east to west by many. I can't speak either way on them, though.

Ah yes... I knew there was another major player that I was forgetting... It's funny I didn't remember TextDrive, because I use StrongSpace with a couple of clients...

I'll need to do a comparison of cost versus features. Obviously my blog isn't mission-critical, so if there is some down-time, it wouldn't be that big a deal. The ability to host other domains would definitely be a plus... (It'd help me offset the cost of hosting potentially.)

Thanks for your feedback on DreamHost. I've read about some of the downtime, and I've been impressed about their transparency when the outages have occurred.

I have been using Dreamhost. I love the fact that I can host unlimited domains and sub-domains and loads of space (even though I don't need it all...yet). It's also a pretty good price for all the features you get. I would recommend them for exactly the above reasons I like it.

With that said, I have heard that they have had their share of downtime over the past few months. When I say that though, I personally haven't had any downtime on the server I'm on (at least not that I know of) but others have on their other servers. But DH usually gets things back up and running quickly and usually explains what happened why their servers went down.

Also their tech support has been very good in my opinion and usually respond very quickly.

Media Temple should also be good and you could also take a look into TextDrive for hosting.
